When I was just beginning my career as a personal trainer, life coach and teacher I was under the impression like most that if you try harder you will get the results you want. After years in the profession and a master degree in psychology I began to see that working with emotion and negative thoughts was not a addition to a weight loss and fitness program it was the essential element.


The defense needs toxins to create a way to shield itself from the outside world. And the fat is then used to hold the system in place.


As I began to understand with my clients, they could push real hard with their diets and workouts and reduce the swelling of the fat cells only to leave the guardians needing to swell up more fat cells to keep them in place. I worked with advanced programs where we both reduced the fat and cleansed the body of toxins. This would work with great effort for some time, but it wasn't until the introduction of the Power back Tool and the other tools of the Art of Weight Loss that results came and lasted.


The fat in the human body is not a bad thing in fact it has many uses beside being and insulator, energy storer and a connective tissue. Body Fat, Weight Loss and Your Target Heart Rate

If you are serious about minimizing body fat with weight loss, and want to really crank up your metabolism and exercise, then you need to be sure to get your your target heart rate up at least 3 times a week, for a minimum of 20 minutes and up to 60 minutes at a time. Raising your target heart rate will ensure that you get the most out of your exercise (both in terms of muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness), while not pushing your body too hard.


Your target heart rate should be 50% to 85% of your maximum heart rate, and it is the safest range for exercise according to the American College of Sports Medicine. You can easily and quickly determine if your intensity is too high by administering the talk test; i.e., if you are unable to maintain a conversation with an exercise partner while exercising, then your intensity is too high.


A simple method for determining your target heart rate is to subtract your age from 220, and then multiply that number by .50 and .85. That should provide you with the range of your target heart rate.


For such a serious level of exercise, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends the following guidelines:


-- Perform your physical activity 3 to 5 times every week, for 20 to 60 minutes at a time.


-- Your activities should involve the large muscle groups (e.g., running, walking, swimming, cycling, etc.).


-- The level of your intensity, or target heart rate, during physical activity should be at least 55% to 65% of your maximum heart rate.


-- Be sure to include muscular strength and stretching for flexibility in your exercise program. Also, if you are not currently exercising, be sure to consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.


-- Consistent exercising is the key to success in any exercise program. And by choosing an activity that you enjoy, you are more likely to continue exercising throughout your adult life.

Research has recently shown that the amount of calories your body burns at rest can increase by drinking lots of cold water every day.

1. Stevia Waters


Look, plain water probably doesn't excite you. It doesn't for me either. I like to have a nice sweet taste with my drinks. Problem is, sugar and man-made sugar substitutes suck and are bad for you. The way around this is to use Stevia. It's a NATURAL sugar substitute that's actually sweeter than sugar.


Here's what I do...


I take my 15-20 ounces of water and drop 2 packets of Stevia in it. If it's in my water bottle, I shake it up. If it's in a glass, I stir it. (Note: I usually drink out of water bottles.) And that's it. Nothing fancy. But it sure does work good. I get my sweet taste so I no longer miss lemonade or Mountain Dew. I completed eliminated these from my diet within 3 days of using the Stevia waters.

This is a true diet drink even though you won't see it on the label. These fill you up moderately and are loaded with healthy protein which feeds your muscles, which in turn burn off lots of calories BECAUSE your muscles burn up 4-8 times more calories than your fat.


To put it simply, if you're not having protein shakes daily, you are not maximizing your weight loss.

3. Fat loss takes time. You must be patient with this, fat loss does not happen over night. You did not gain the fat in a week and it won't come off in a week. I'm sure you've heard many different myths to losing weight. Some may have been true and others not. I'm here to debunk 2 of the biggest myths floating around. In this article I will explain why you don't need to exercise to burn fat and break the myth that your metabolism slows down after 30.


I need to exercise to lose fat, WRONG!


The truth is you do not gain body fat because you are lacking in exercise, you gain weight because your sugar levels exceed what you are using. So when you break it down, it usually means you are consuming too many calories at one time. One of the biggest reasons for over-eating is due to people missing breakfast.


You're metabolism slows down after you turn 30, WRONG!


There have been hundreds of research studies that have shown the slow down in the metabolism is due to a loss of muscle tissue. Loss of muscle tissue is directly related to a lack of physical activity. Most people after 30 stop working out, they stop going to the gym and they stop participating in events. This is obviously not everyone that does that, but most do.


I had to get those 2 myths off my chest because I constantly hear people talking about them all the time. Eat smaller meals, eat healthier and you can lose weight without exercise. Your metabolism doesn't slow down because of your age it slows down because your physical activity slows down.


I have done my best to explain why these theories are myths. As I always mention, don't overlook simplicity. Usually it's simplicity that gets the job done. We will talk soon.
